Storm Boelo Fails To Dampen Spirits At Tullyroan Oval
As the wild, wet and windy weather from Storm Boelo battered Tullyroan Oval on Saturday evening, October 24th, Portadown duo Jordan Robinson and Jack Morrison celebrated Irish Championship success in the Superstox and Junior Productions formulas respectively. There was a faultless hat-trick of wins for Kells driver Derek McMillan in the National Hot Rods, with Norfolk’s George Cooper the winner in a superb Ninja Karts Champion of Champions event. The other feature race win fell to Dungannon’s Ally Neill in the 2.0 Hot Rods.National Hot Rods
Wet weather tyres were the order of the day in the National Hot Rods, with Davy Clarke leading the way in heat one before Derek McMillan stormed past to victory. Derek Martin had a great outside run to second ahead of James Mooney. Heat two followed a similar pattern, with McMillan again taking the win ahead of a fantastic places battle which went the way of World and British Champion Glenn Bell ahead of Drew McKeown.
McMillan wasted no time working his way ahead in the final, making the most of his yellow grading to edge out quite an advantage. Bell was on the move again in this one, working his way to second and narrowing the gap to the leader with every lap. McMillan managed the advantage all the way home to complete the hat-trick in style, with Bell, Shane Murray, McKeown and Martin next home.
Superstox
The Superstox Irish Championship saw the World, European and British Champions all within the front two rows of the grid. Steven Haugh led them away, but it was gold roof holder Jamie McCann who worked his way ahead in the early stages from Jordan Robinson, Troy Crawford and Haugh. Robinson quickly hit the front, and from there he pulled clear to record his third Irish title in succession and he celebrated in some style. McCann took second ahead of an impressive drive from Troy Crawford to third.
The Irish Revenge reversed grid race saw another great battle up front, with Robinson again taking the win over McCann and Stephen Stewart. Junior Productions
Jack Morrison and Casey Cherry shared the front row for the Junior Productions Irish Championship, and it was Morrison who quickly edged out a lead ahead of the chasing pack. A mid-race caution period brought them all back together, but such was Morrison’s dominance that he simply pulled clear as they returned to racing. Jack powered home to take the biggest win of his career to date, with Cherry, Ryan Berry and Noah Teggart next home.
The Irish Revenge race was a cracking event, with the impressive Morrison coming from back to front to net another win over an absolutely superb drive from white grader Liza Kennedy-Gurney, as she took second despite a mid race caution period which brought some much more experienced runners onto her tail.
Ninja Karts
A big field of almost 40 Ninja Karts arrived in the pits, with many cross-channel teams showing their grit as they battled to be on track despite ferry disruptions due to the storm. First up was the Hollytree Farm Individual Achievement Award for the local drivers who haven’t won a race in 2026. It became a super battle with Frankie Stirling taking the win in a very close finish ahead of Cahan Bradley and Luke Grattan. The 2026 Hollytree Farm Endeavour Award was also presented to Tommy Bevan.
Next up was the Champion of Champions event, with three keenly contested heats falling to England’s Stanley Cooper, Belfast’s Harry Hoy and Richhill’s Jack Murphy. On aggregate points World Champion George Cooper and Jordan Davis shared the front row, but it was Murphy who powered ahead from the second row of the grid. Cooper was tracking his every move though, and the Norfolk ace slipped inside with just over a lap to go to take a fantastic win. Murphy signed off from his Ninja Karts career with second ahead of Davis, Stanley Cooper and Ollie Williamson.
2.0 Hot Rods
Rounding out the programme were the 2.0 Hot Rods, and they produced some fantastic racing in the difficult conditions. Ally Neill won the opening heat after first across the line Ronan McNally was docked for jumping the rolling start. Heat two was arguable the race of the night, as Rab Preston, McNally and Rob Barnett all had spells ahead before Irish Champion Jordan Rochford powered to the victory out of the last bend by the narrowest of margins.
Preston set the pace in the final, another one with some great wet weather racing and numerous lines being used. Neill was on the move this time though, and he surged ahead to take the win over McNally, James McKinney and Preston.
