Thunder Rods

The Thunder Rods aim to provide cost effective non-contact racing. Limited to a certain number of eligible cars, the most popular choice is the Vauxhall Astra, although other models like the Ford Sierra, Escort, VW Golf and Peugeot 207 & 306 are also permitted. The formula has produced some fantastic, wheel-to-wheel racing and some big grids, and is proving to be an excellent feeder formula for our more senior classes.

The Thunder Rods are a staple at most Aghadowey Oval meetings, but also enjoy outings to Tullyroan Oval during the season plus a chance to sample Tipperary Raceway in April 2026. An excellent place to start your non-contact oval racing career!
